Sorting through the myriad male sexual performance enhancement pill review and comparison sites can be incredibly daunting. Which ones work? Which ones don’t? How could you possibly know?
First, when buying any dietary supplement, including male sexual performance enhancers, it is always important to note controlled human subject studies.
Yeah, that’s right: Studies with representative adult participants.
It is crucial that the product have verifiable scientific, controlled study data. In this case, men’s sexual performance.
This website is not intended to bash or compare other enhancement supplements out there.

IIEF – what the heck is that? Good question. IIEF stands for “International Index of Erectile Function.” It’s a scientific self-reported instrument for measuring key performance indicators related to stuff we men are interested in as it pertains to sexual performance. Technically speaking, IIEF is observed in measuring the following domains:
- Erectile Function
- Sexual Desire
- Orgasmic Function
- Intercourse Satisfaction
- Overall Satisfaction
What does IIEF have to do with it?
You may be thinking, “OMG brah, IIEF, OK, that’s great, but what does that have to do with VigRX Plus?”
Well, the international human subject studies cited here conducted in India and Iran – two peer reviewed, one not – suggest that VigRX Plus may improve erectile dysfunction in men between ages 25-50. And, they also suggest potential improvement in IIEF!
Please note that differences between populations, such as differences in diet and general health and patterns of use, might confound results with international studies. Please also note that studies published in reputable peer reviewed journals are looked upon more favorably than non-peer reviewed studies.
Peer Reviewed Study #1 (Shah et al. – 2012)
Men 25-50 years of age that were seeking treatment for sexual dysfunction at the outpatient clinics of the investigators were offered participation in this specific study. The study subjects were from non-specific nationality men living in India.
Well, they were given VigRX Plus – 2 capsules per day for 12 weeks.
- Statistically significant (P <0.0001) increase of IIEF-EF domain scores baseline to end of study (12 weeks) as compared to placebo.
- The ability to penetrate the partner (Q3 IIEF) and maintain and erection after penetration (Q4 IIEF) increased by 59% and 63% in subjects receiving VigRX Plus.
- Significant rise in every domain of the IIEF indicates that VigRX Plus improved various aspects of sexual functioning in men.
- By Day 84 (end of VigRX Plus treatment), the study resulted in a statistically significant increase (p <0.001) of IIEF-A, IIEF-B and IIEF-Total scores as compared to placebo.
In the end, after 12 weeks, Peer Reviewed Study #1 suggested that VigRX Plus was statistically significantly better than the placebo in improving erectile dysfunction in subjects with ED. It also suggested superiority to placebo in improving the other aspects of sexual health such as libido, intercourse satisfaction, orgasmic function and overall satisfaction.
Peer Reviewed VigRX Plus Study #2 (Raisi et al. – 2010)
Here, men of non-specified nationality in Iran had results that suggested a trend towards efficacy of VigRX Plus, despite what were inherent limitations of very low VigRX dosages, small numbers of subjects, short-term subject follow-up and associated weak statistics.
Please note the inherent limitations of Peer Reviewed Study #2. Please also note that while valuable and often indicative of a well-designed and executed study, peer review is not a guarantor of high quality.
Non-Peer Reviewed VigRX Plus Study #1 (Shah et al. – 2010)
Here, there were 75 men between 25-50 years of age in India with mild to moderate ED. Those who used VigRX Plus for 12 weeks garnered better results than the placebo group in improving erectile function in subjects with sexual dysfunction.
Here’s the technical jargon for all you nerds out there.
Treatment with VigRX Plus resulted in a statistically significant increase (p < 0.0001) of IIEF-A, IIEF-B and IIEF-Total scores as compared to placebo, on Day 84 (end of treatment). In subjects treated with VigRX Plus, mean increases from baseline to end of treatment for IIEF-A, IIEF-B and IIEF-Total were 9, 20.1 and 11.56, respectively. The corresponding increases in the placebo group were 0.62, 1 and 0.68. Treatment satisfaction as assessed by EDITS (patient version) was higher in the VigRX Plus group as compared to placebo on Day 28, Day 56 and Day 84. At the end of treatment, mean EDITS score was 82.31 in the VigRX Plus group and 36.78 in the placebo group.
Please note that Peer Reviewed Study #1 and Non-Peer Reviewed Study #1 may not have been conducted by different researchers, independently of each other, as required by applicable claim substantiation standards. However, while they two separate Shah studies may not be considered independent as study populations, some authors and study protocol were equivalent.
Studies of Selected Ingredients
Some separate studies utilizing high-dosages of selected ingredients of VigRX Plus demonstrate improvements in sexual function. Please note that high dosage responses do not necessarily reflect those from low dosages.
For example, Ginseng – one of the ingredients in VigRX Plus – was found to be effective for treating ED. Jang et al. (2008)
Jang et al. is a review article citing several RCT studies. The article considers the efficacy of Ginseng in improving male sexual performance. In all such studies, however, please note that dosages ranged from 600 to 1,000 mg, substantially higher than found in the VigRX product.
Additionally, three separate RCT studies for Tribulus, another VigRX ingredient, were conducted at dosages significantly higher than found in VigRX Plus. The studies showed no increase in serum testosterone, despite high doses that were substantially higher than found in the VigRX Plus product. Saudan et al (2008), Brown et al (2000), Brown et al (2001).
Please also note the limitations of the selected ingredient studies cited above. Please also note that while the higher-dosage selected ingredient-centric studies cited above are supportive, there may exist other published studies that do not demonstrate the same efficacy for VigRX Plus or its ingredients.
Please also note that there exist human subject studies on selected VigRX Plus ingredients, but not all ingredients.
The operator of this website makes no express or implied representation regarding the extent/absence of additional scientific limitations, if any, as it pertains to other VigRX Plus ingredients.

Rise of the Scammers
Evidently, VigRX Plus’ popularity has come with a cost: counterfeits. Yes, fakes. According to their official website, some unscrupulous supplement scammers out there have created bogus versions of VigRX Plus. Leading Edge says you can tell by “noticeable signs of … white powder in the tablet” and a “lack of a Leading Edge Health barcode.” The phony iteration is also identified by a noticeably cheaper price, too.
